The Crown Story
According to archival and technical documents, it turns out that the building was located in the neighborhood called ‘Sulejman Pasha’, in Tirana and it was built by a merchant of that time named Banush Hamdi Bego, originally from Starova of Korça. The building was designed by Austrian architects and constructors, engineers around the years 1918.
In 1934 the building of Mr. Bego was sold to princess Adile Zogu, the sister of the Albanian king of that time for a price of 40,000 gold francs. She used the second floor of the building for family housing while for business she used the shops on the first floor.
The building at that time consisted of 12 bedrooms, 1 kitchen, 2 bathrooms, balconies and a wardrobe room. On the ground floor there were 6 shops whereas on the third floor there was a suite (balcony) with balcony.
In April, 1939 the building was confiscated by the Italian government along with several other properties of Albanian nationalists who had opposed the Italian occupation and then in
1943, with the arrival of the Germans the building wasgiven back to the owners and then it was lastly confiscated by the communists in 1948.
With the advent of democracy, the building was returned to Mrs. Adile Zogu’s son, prince Hysen Dohoshishti (Agolli) on 23.06.1995 and it was bought by his cousin Selman Hysenagolli (Agolli).
During the century-old history, the building has undergone several repairs several times, but only in the recent years the building was completely rehabilitated and restored with modern parameters by the company ‘Crown Boutique Hotel & Spa shpk’ directed by Mr. Fatjon Selimaj. The restoration was designed by the architectural studio ‘Mad Studio’ and it was completed in March 2022.
